Joven and Benita were living the American Dream until Joven was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma—cancer. What gave them peace of mind during this challenging time was their life insurance policy with living benefits. Today, Joven is cancer-free and shares his story to inspire others.
High school sweethearts from the Philippines, Joven and Benita’s love endured years of separation as they navigated immigration to the U.S. Benita moved to the U.S. in 1990 and returned to marry Joven in 1992. After starting a family, Benita returned to the U.S., and in 2002, Joven joined her with their children in Wildomar, California. They enjoyed a successful life—Joven as an engineer and Benita as a registered nurse—until Joven’s diagnosis in 2011 changed everything.
Facing mounting financial concerns after surgery, Joven remembered the living benefits in his life insurance policy. To their relief, the policy allowed them to access $288,000 to cover expenses, giving them peace of mind and allowing Joven to focus on recovery.
Three years later, Joven was cancer-free and back to living the American Dream. Inspired by their experience, Benita left nursing, and Joven joined her to help others understand the power of life insurance with living benefits. “It’s been therapeutic to share my story,” Joven says.
